Brave New Lit.

2021
Brave New Lit. is a digital platform about science fiction, dystopian literature, and the rituals of the people who write, design and read such genres. Developed in 2021 following the support of the Dutch Creative Industries Fund (Stimuleringfonds NL), the online journal publishes essays, interviews and short stories built on the premise that science fiction, horror and other speculative works are most readily explored through the lens of their Paratextual elements. The design features a myriad of interactive elements such as side footers, text scalability and collapsable sticky notes to aid in the readability of the texts.

    Love From The Margins

    2022
'Love from the Margins’ is an enquiry into the historical and contemporary conditions of Black writers in the Netherlands. Heavily driven by various graphic design terminologies that act as metaphoric frameworks in which the political and personal undercurrents of these writers can be explored, 'Love from the Margins' ventures to propose a way of illuminating narratives that not only centre love, which has been pivotal in struggles against racism, but that incorporates the mundane, the routine and the everyday. From explorations of supermarket stories of Black masculinity as told by Edgar Cairo to the plays of Thea Doelwijt, 'Love from the Margins' turns the gaze inwards and posits a way of working that centres community and ritual as sustenance during and after the various fights for liberation.

    The German Design Awards

    2021
The German Design Awards is presented by the German Ministry for Economics and Technology every year honouring the works and personalities in the design sector. My team and I at Habegger were enlisted to pitch a design concept for 2021. We conceptualised a minimalist approach to allow the work of the participants to be centred. Tying the physical realm with the digital, the aim was for the scaffolding to act as a design grid in the graphic design; the result was a design language that was cohesive.

In addition to the spatial and wayfinding, I also designed the digital gallery for visitors to read more about the contestants and their projects.

The wayfinding design and its simple line elements were closely modelled after the floor plan

University of Bern Virtual Open Day

    2022
As a result of the current Covid 19 crisis, the previously planned Bachelor and Master information days had to be cancelled, so a virtual tour was set up. I designed and produced the user interface and developed the user experience to enable potential students to find out more. The result was a virtual event with many features such as chat rooms, interactive maps and a full 360° view of the buildings of the University of Bern. My design adhered to the university's brand guidelines and offered a fresh interpretation of the well-known institution.

    Chasing Lizards and Other Memories

    2018
How does recounting our memories in public transform them? 'Chasing Lizards and Other Memories' is a book I wrote on the reconciliation of memory through narrative non-fiction and prose. The book offers 20 narrative non-fiction stories and interludes of photos. These stories and prose are told through different narrational lenses as an indirect analysis of micro-moments that fit into broader political realities with unflinching intensity.
